Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative. Explain and describe your journey. (No Less Than Three FULL Paragraphs.) When we were told to choose a Genius Hour project, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do. I had all sorts of ideas, but didn’t know how to choose. Then I thought of starting a dance team at my high school. I knew that Iron Mountain High School had a dance team, so I figured we should have one too.
I spent time figuring out how I wanted to layout my website and what information I wanted to include. I looked up many different videos of high school dance teams performing and I looked at how they get involved in their community. I realized that these dance teams were extremely positive for both the students and their community.
After I gathered all the information I wanted, I constructed my Weebly website. I also wrote an email to send to Mr. Roberts and Mr. Smithson. My email stated why I wanted to start a dance team and the benefits of a dance team.
The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be? (No Less Than Two Full Paragraphs.)
Other people can benefit from my knowledge gained through my Genius Hour project in several different ways. If someone was interested in dance, they could go to my website and see what it is like to be on a dance team. Students from other schools could go to my website if they were looking for help to start a dance team at their school as well.
My website could also serve as a tool to help the principal of my school and others find out information about a dance team. If someone was skeptical about joining a dance team, they could read the information on my website to help grasp a better understanding of what the dance team entails.
If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why? (No less than two full paragraphs.)
There are a few things I would do differently with my Genius Hour project. For one, I would have contacted Mr. Roberts and Mr. Smithson sooner and been more focused on my project. I would’ve gotten more interest in the dance team throughout the year as well.
If I had contacted Mr. Roberts and Mr. Smithson sooner, I could’ve also started fundraising for the new group with a bake sale, GoFundMe, etc. Then the idea of a dance team would’ve been in everyone’s minds.
Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments. (No less than two full paragraphs.)
With my Genius Hour project, I did an excellent job providing videos of other high school dance teams and showing how successful they perform as a team. I also did an excellent job fully answering my blog posts.
I think that my Weebly page is very well put together and visually pleasing. I think I truly depicted my idea of a high school dance team for my page visitors to understand.
Include any videos, pictures, presentations, or artifacts that will document your journey.
